Honda produced fewer than 140 units of the facelifted NSX-R, which makes it an extremely sought-after collectible.

This particular model fetched nearly $1.1 million, setting new records at Broad Arrow Auctions.

The special edition was lighter than the standard NSX and featured an upgraded 3.2-liter V6 engine.

It’s widely recognized that the Honda NSX is one of Japan's most legendary performance vehicles, but over the weekend, one especially rare variant was sold for a price that could make even the most dedicated NSX enthusiasts pause. The final bid? €934,375, which is approximately $1,064,257. That’s significantly more than a typical NSX, nearly ten times the usual cost. Yes, that’s accurate.

What makes this NSX-R so unique to merit such a high price tag? Firstly, it’s one of the rarest models. Honda manufactured fewer than 140 facelifted NSX-Rs, all of which were sold exclusively in Japan.

Additionally, to reduce weight, Honda extensively utilized carbon fiber. The audio system was removed, and both power steering and air conditioning were considered optional. To top it off, lightweight Recaro carbon-kevlar seats were incorporated, reducing almost 220 lbs (100 kg) compared to the standard version.

Like all other facelifted NSXs, this R variant retained the 3.2-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine, but crucial components were finely tuned, and the rotating assembly was better balanced. Although Honda claims that the engine still produces 290 hp, it is believed that this V6 offers greater power.

      Where It Was Sold

The NSX-R was sold at Broad Arrow Auctions during the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy last weekend, coinciding with BMW's unveiling of its Speedtop concept. Details about its prior owners were not disclosed, but the vehicle had fewer than 16,000 km (9,941 miles) on the odometer and had its timing belt replaced in 2023. So, if the new owner intends to drive it, they are set for the near future.

The exterior is dressed in Honda’s cherished Championship White, complemented by matching BBS wheels. Inside, the stunning carbon-kevlar seats are adorned with bright red Alcantara. According to the auction house, bidders from the US, Australia, the UK, South Africa, and Argentina were vying to acquire this remarkable NSX-R, contributing to its soaring price.
