Authorities in Jalisco, Mexico, are acquiring 678 new patrol vehicles, although only a small number will be Tesla Cybertrucks.

These Cybertrucks are set to be utilized in popular tourist areas during the World Cup.

They are expected to be the first Tesla Cybertruck police units in the country.

Earlier this year, police in Texas announced plans to receive 10 Cybertrucks.

With just over a year remaining until the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, officials in Jalisco are preparing for the large-scale event. Recently, they added three specially modified Tesla Cybertruck patrol vehicles to their fleet, designated for deployment in busy tourist locations during the tournament.

One of these Cybertrucks has already been seen patrolling local city streets, accompanied by a couple of F-Series trucks also used by the police. The local mayor, Pablo Lemus Navarro, is enthusiastic about enhancing safety during the World Cup, although the significant expenditures have caused some discontent among residents.

The Tesla truck features a matte black wrap with all necessary police markings. Flashing red and blue lights have been seamlessly integrated into the front and rear bumpers, along with the side skirts. Local authorities have not yet shared images of the Cybertruck’s interior, but it is likely outfitted with the essential equipment required for effective patrolling and crime prevention.

These Cybertrucks are only a small segment of a larger fleet of new vehicles being introduced in the state.

Governor Navarro has ambitious plans to enhance security in the area ahead of the World Cup. "We also need to significantly improve the perception of safety; we will deliver 678 patrol cars for the State Police, State Highway Police, and State Police, including some ‘Black Mambas,’ which are a type of armored vehicle," he stated.

Mexico is not the only country integrating the Cybertruck into law enforcement. Earlier this year, Las Vegas announced it would acquire 10 of the trucks, thanks to an anonymous donor. Some of these vehicles will support SWAT teams, while others will patrol the streets. It’s possible that additional cities will adopt similar measures.

The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 across 16 host cities in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, featuring 48 teams. While the decision by Jalisco to deploy high-tech, bulletproof Cybertruck patrol vehicles may seem impressive, it raises concerns about whether this extravagant expenditure is the best allocation of resources for an event of this magnitude.

@prensaxtremard The Government of Jalisco unveiled this week the new Tesla Cybertruck patrols, armored with ballistic-grade steel and equipped with artificial intelligence, 360° cameras, real-time connection to command centers, and direct access to arrest warrant databases. These units, designed to withstand high-caliber impacts, will be part of the special security operation leading up to the 2026 World Cup, with Guadalajara as one of its venues. Alongside cutting-edge technology, the installation of 1,500 new surveillance cameras at over 300 strategic points in the state has been announced, including highways to Guanajuato, Colima, and Michoacán. Additionally, 678 new patrol cars will be introduced.
