On Memorial Day, police utilized a fixed-wing aircraft to monitor a Corvette driver who was speeding.

The driver reached speeds of 140 mph on I-93 while being unaware that the police plane was following him.

The fixed-wing aircraft operated by local law enforcement recorded 111 traffic violations.

A 22-year-old man from Salem, New Hampshire, discovered that while you may attempt to escape, there's no hiding when police have airborne surveillance. The driver, racing at an astounding 140 mph (225 km/h) in a 2024 Chevrolet Corvette C8, may have believed he could evade capture, but local authorities had a more efficient tool than a high-speed pursuit: a fixed-wing aircraft.

On Memorial Day, the New Hampshire State Police conducted a focused traffic enforcement operation, flying their plane over northbound Interstate 93, just across the Massachusetts border. Throughout the morning, police noted 111 traffic violations, including speeding, cell phone use, reckless driving, and ‘Move Over’ infractions. However, it was a white Corvette that truly caught their attention.

At 7:45 a.m., a trooper observed the Chevy traveling at 110 mph (177 km/h). Ground officers attempted to pull the driver over, but he chose to accelerate and flee, recklessly overtaking vehicles. Unbeknownst to him, he was being tracked by the police aircraft and was later recorded cruising at around 140 mph (225 km/h). The plane followed him off the interstate onto side roads in Windham, guiding ground police to his whereabouts.

The driver, identified as Brandon E. B., 22, from Salem, Massachusetts, was arrested on charges of reckless driving and failing to comply with an officer's orders.

The maximum penalty for reckless driving in New Hampshire can include a fine of $620, a 60-day license suspension, and an extra mandatory penalty assessment. The young driver was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in Salem District Court on July 17.

Brandon’s Corvette was not the only vehicle violating the law that day. Authorities reported that 42 other drivers were seen exceeding 90 mph, with six of them clocked at over 100 mph. It appears that Memorial Day involves just as many speeding citations as it does barbecues.
