GM has unveiled an enhanced version of Super Cruise, which offers greater automation in driving.

This latest system features integration with Google Maps and the ability to automatically change lanes to adhere to your route.

Additionally, a new hands-on capability and automatic resumption of Super Cruise have been introduced.

Recently, GMC revealed that the 2026 Hummer EV will be equipped with an advanced version of Super Cruise, though it was first quietly introduced with the 2026 Cadillac Vistiq, where we had a brief hands-on experience with the updated semi-autonomous driving feature.

One significant improvement is the smoother transitions in and out of Super Cruise-enabled roads. Notably, there's a new hands-on capability that keeps the vehicle centered within its lane while maintaining a safe distance from the car in front. Essentially, Super Cruise collaborates with adaptive cruise control and lane centering features to provide a more comfortable driving experience.

In regard to Google Maps integration and improved lane changes, upon entering a Super Cruise-enabled road, the hands-free system will engage automatically. An integrated lightbar on the steering wheel will turn green to indicate this engagement.

Moreover, with the new Google Maps integration, roads compatible with Super Cruise are highlighted, and automatic lane changes have become significantly smarter.

When following a route, the Vistiq ensures that you stay in the correct lane for reaching your destination. If a lane change is necessary, it will carry it out automatically. However, officials noted that drivers may occasionally need to take control for more intricate lane changes.

During our brief highway test, the system functioned effectively, checking the adjacent lane to ensure it was clear before executing a lane change without any issues. However, I wish the notifications were clearer; I initially missed the lane change alert on the digital dashboard.

The message appeared on the right side and might have been obscured by the steering wheel. While drivers would likely acclimate to this with experience, it can be unsettling when your vehicle changes lanes unexpectedly.

      Not Overbearing

Aside from this minor concern, the latest system includes Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, which can automatically adjust its speed in response to changing speed limits. Fortunately, it doesn’t act like an overbearing caretaker; it allows you to exceed the speed limit if you choose. As officials explained, if you're driving at 75 mph in a 70 mph zone and the limit drops to 55 mph, the car would reduce its speed to 60 mph.

This offers merely a brief insight into the updated version of Super Cruise, with officials suggesting it will be available in more models in the future.
