Ram's initial commitment to release a full-size, fully electric pickup by 2024 has not materialized. Additionally, it appears that consumers will have to wait even longer. After delaying the launch of the Ram 1500 REV to 2025, Stellantis has informed Crain’s Detroit Business that this has been postponed again: the electric Ram is now set to be available in summer 2027 as a 2028 model year vehicle due to “slowing consumer demand for half-ton BEV pickups.”
The announcement regarding Ram's plans for an electric truck dates back to 2021. In February 2023, the company revealed a production-ready-looking Ram 1500 REV, which was anticipated for release the following year. However, by late 2024, the Ram REV had not yet hit the market and was ultimately pushed to 2026, with the gas range-extended Ramcharger taking precedence despite its own delays. Now, “2026” has been pushed to “summer 2027.”
Indeed, if the current schedules for both launches are adhered to, we will see the release of Grand Theft Auto VI before the arrival of an electric Ram pickup.

Regarding the range-extended Ramcharger that was initially expected to be released late last year, it is now also delayed until Q1 2026. A Ram representative stated to CDB that this extension is meant to “extend the quality validation period.”
Experiencing delays and falling short of expectations seems to be a recurring issue with certain electric pickups. The 1500 REV has already been postponed three years from its original debut date, and earlier in 2025, a leaked notice to suppliers indicated that the planned 500-mile long-range version had been scrapped, leaving only the 350-mile standard range as an option.
