Hyundai's sales increased by 19% last month, achieving a record high for April.
The South Korean automaker benefited from robust demand for the Tucson and Santa Fe models.
Although EV sales experienced a minor drop, the 2026 Ioniq 9 is set to arrive at dealerships soon.
It seems that Americans were eager to make purchases last month, and Hyundai capitalized on this trend. The company recorded its best-ever April, contributing to a strong year overall. Sales rose by 19% from 2024, totaling an impressive 81,503 units. This achievement marked the brand's seventh consecutive month of record-breaking total sales.

The Tucson was the standout in April, with sales increasing by 41% to 22,054 units. It was closely followed by the Elantra, with 13,125 units sold, reflecting a 30% rise from the previous year. The Santa Fe rounded out the top three, with sales climbing 28% as dealers sold 12,417 units of the crossover.
Hyundai reported that customers welcomed their eco-friendly offerings, as hybrid sales soared by 46%, and electrified vehicle sales rose by 25%. However, electric vehicles faced challenges, with the Ioniq 5 experiencing an 8% drop and the Ioniq 6 seeing a 12% decline.
There appears to be some relief on the way with the arrival of the Ioniq 9 this spring. Hyundai also recently introduced the updated Ioniq 6 and redesigned Nexo in South Korea.
Returning to sales, most models showed growth. However, the Santa Cruz continues to face difficulties, with a 16% decrease last month. Customers purchased only 2,494 units of the compact pickup, which starts at $28,750, excluding a $1,450 destination fee.
The model competes fiercely with the revamped Maverick, which starts at $25,693 due to Ford's employee pricing for all program. In addition to being more affordable, the Maverick offers a hybrid powertrain that allows the truck to achieve 42 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, and 38 mpg combined, significantly outperforming the Santa Cruz's ratings of 25, 22, and 30.
