The vehicle has had only two owners since it was first sold and has been driven for less than 5,400 miles.
This F50 has not been seen in public since 2009 and comes in a Giallo Modena color.
RM Sotheby’s anticipates this F50 will be sold for between $6.5 million and $7.5 million.
Acquiring a piece of automotive history has always been expensive, but with Ferrari’s heritage and Ralph Lauren’s association, the price is likely to soar.
Ralph Lauren, renowned as one of the most prominent fashion designers in the world, is also well-known in automotive circles for his extraordinary car collection. A 1995 Ferrari F50 previously owned by him is now up for auction and could potentially become one of the most costly F50s ever sold publicly.
Ferrari produced only 349 units of the F50, out of which 55 were made to US specifications. Lauren’s former vehicle stands as one of just two US models in Giallo Modena and was originally delivered to him. Although Lauren typically retains his cars, he sold this F50 in 2003, and it has been in the second owner’s possession since then.
According to RM Sotheby’s, this exceptional F50 could fetch between $6.5 million and $7.5 million. If it sells for the lower estimate of $6.5 million, it would surpass the previous record of the most expensive F50 sold at auction, which went for $5,532,500 in February. That particular car had 1,351 miles (2,174 km) on the odometer, while Lauren’s former F50 has been driven just under 5,400 miles (~8,690 km).
The Giallo Modena F50 was showcased at several events during the 2000s but has not been seen publicly since 2009, when it was featured at the Celebration Exotic Car Festival in Central Florida. It underwent servicing last year, during which a new fuel bladder was added.
There was a time when the F50 wasn’t held in the same high esteem as the F40, but perceptions have shifted in recent years. Thanks in part to its F1-based V12 engine and striking rarity, it is now regarded as one of the finest Ferrari road cars ever, reflected in the increasing values of low-mileage models. A decade ago, an F50 could be purchased for under $1.5 million; now they are selling for over $5 million.
For those with around $7 million to spare or those who just want to imagine what life could have been like with better choices, the full listing is available here. Just be careful not to drool on your keyboard.
