Someone Spent $11K Above MSRP For A New 2023 Camaro | Carscoops

A 650-hp Camaro, equipped with special parts, completed a lap at the Nürburgring in 7:16.04? We would call that a reasonable price.

The Camaro was discontinued in December 2023 due to poor sales as Chevrolet shifted its focus to SUVs.

A 2023 ZL1 1LE recently sold at an online auction for $88,500, earning the original owner an additional $11,000.

With 650 hp, numerous enhancements over the standard ZL1 LE, and only 30 miles on it, this is a price that seems justified.

The demise of an iconic sports car often brings about nostalgia and a willingness to pay a premium. The first-generation Camaro debuted in September 1966 with GM's intentions made clear from the outset. During its press launch, when questioned about what a Camaro was, company executives famously responded, “a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs.”

The Camaro would battle the Mustang for six generations but met its end in December 2023 due to lackluster sales, as the sports car market significantly shrunk while consumers turned to SUVs and crossovers. Nonetheless, many still long for Chevy’s pony car, as demonstrated by a recent online auction where an example commanded a significant price.

The vehicle in question is a white 2023 Camaro ZL1 1LE with only 30 miles on the odometer, making it nearly new despite being two years old and out of production. When the Bring a Trailer auction concluded on April 18, the winning bid reached $88,500, which was $11,000 more than its initial purchase price, providing the original owner with a pleasant profit in a short timeframe.

If that price seems excessive, it’s essential to recognize that the Camaro ZL1 1LE is a formidable machine. While the other three trims featured either a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 275 hp, a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 hp, or a 455 hp 6.2-liter V8, the ZL1 boasted a supercharged 650 hp V8 based on the engine from the C7 Corvette Z06.

Additionally, the ZL1 1LE, introduced in the 2018 model year, included enhanced aerodynamics, a new adjustable suspension, and lightweight forged aluminum wheels fitted with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires specifically designed for this model. The 1LE package also trimmed overall weight by 60 lbs (27 kg) compared to the standard version.

While the 1LE’s LT4 V8 didn’t receive modifications, it was paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission featuring Active Rev Match—the 10-speed automatic option available on the regular model was not offered. To highlight its performance credentials, a 2018 ZL1 1LE completed the Nurburgring Nordschleife in just 7:16.04, outpacing a 2017 model fitted with the automatic transmission by 13.56 seconds.

After the auction ended, someone mentioned their surprise at the final price, expecting it to sell for at least $100,000. Overall, we believe the buyer of that nearly new Camaro ZL1 1LE got a great deal.
