Its premium exterior design complements a luxurious and well-appointed interior.

China has swiftly emerged as a significant player in the automotive industry. Once primarily associated with affordable vehicles, many Chinese manufacturers are now delivering impressive, albeit sometimes generic, luxury models. The latest high-end SUV from GAC, one of China’s largest automotive brands, is the Trumpchi S9.

This vehicle could potentially serve as China’s budget alternative to the Range Rover, or perhaps a version that has drawn inspiration from several European classics, incorporating some design elements while adding just enough luxury to make it feel credible.

Previewed at the Shanghai Auto Show, the S9 exudes a sophisticated and elegant appearance, easily resembling a vehicle from a European brand. At the front, it features a striking light bar linking sleek, narrow LED headlights, a black lower grille, and substantial air intakes.

Enhancing the premium allure of the Trumpchi S9 are flush door handles and the option for two-tone paint. A slender chrome strip adorns the base of the side and rear windows, visually distinguishing the top and bottom sections of the vehicle. These design details emphasize the S9’s luxurious appearance.

At the rear of the latest model are LED taillights, a light bar, and a spacious tailgate. Specifications indicate that the S9 measures 5,060 mm (199.2 inches) in length, 1,950 mm (76.7 inches) in width, and stands 1,760 mm (69.2 inches) tall, with a generous wheelbase of 2,930 mm (115.3 inches).

The interior resembles a blend of the cabin from the new Hyundai Palisade and nearly every new luxury vehicle emerging from China. It features a straightforward two-spoke steering wheel, a digital instrument panel, and a large infotainment screen positioned at the center of the dashboard. As is now commonplace, there are two wireless charging pads, two cupholders, and a split center console.

The S9 will be offered as a six-seater, with the second row featuring a distinctive layout. A large screen descends from the ceiling, accompanied by tray tables and a small screen to manage the climate and audio systems. The second-row captain’s chairs are electrically adjustable, enhancing the experience for rear passengers.

Under the hood, the Trumpchi S9 will only be available as a plug-in hybrid. All variants are equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine generating 160 horsepower. The base model includes a 231 hp electric motor, resulting in an all-wheel-drive setup and a total output of 392 horsepower. The top-tier models will elevate this figure further, achieving a combined output of 501 horsepower.
