The classic American sports car slid beneath the guardrail, shattering the windshield.
Firefighters had to remove the Corvette's roof and lift the guardrail to rescue the driver.
Despite the absence of modern safety features, the driver emerged from the accident unharmed.
A driver of a C3 Chevrolet Corvette in Colorado is fortunate to be alive following a terrifying crash that left the vehicle lodged under a steel guardrail. If they haven’t already purchased a lottery ticket, they certainly should, as a slightly different turn of events could have led to a tragic and gruesome outcome.
As reported by the Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department, the brown Corvette struck a guardrail near the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Castle Rock over the weekend. While the precise cause of the crash has not been revealed, leaving us to speculate if driver error was involved, images shared on Facebook vividly illustrate how fortunate the driver was to survive.

Due to the C3's low profile, the front of the car slid under the upper section of the guardrail, crushing the windshield in the process. Fortunately, the Corvette did not continue moving; it stopped with the guardrail positioned directly in the center of the passenger compartment, just inches away from where the driver’s head would have been.
Local authorities reported that they had to cut off the Corvette’s roof to extract the driver. They also had to raise the guardrail to pull the damaged Chevy out.
The accident resulted in shattered glass throughout the car, leaving the cabin with only a white sheet and an orange basketball. Had the Corvette not stopped when it did, the driver's head might have been right next to that basketball. Remarkably, not only did the driver survive, but they walked away completely unscathed, which is especially surprising given that the C3 lacks nearly all the safety features found in modern vehicles, including airbags to cushion the impact.
