New Jeep Compass Caught Featuring EV Components as Tariff Issues Arise | Carscoops
The global introduction of the compact SUV is approaching.
The Jeep Compass is undergoing a refresh in Europe, though American consumers may have to wait a little longer.
A camouflaged prototype of the SUV was spotted in Italy, featuring a fully electric powertrain.
This SUV will also come with hybrid and plug-in hybrid options, built on Stellantis foundations.
Jeep has a reputation for not keeping things under wraps, and the recent sighting of the brand-new third-generation Compass confirms this idea remains true. The updated SUV has made its initial undercover appearance in Europe, merely weeks ahead of its official launch, which is set for this spring.
A review indicates that the Jeep Avenger demonstrates that internal combustion engines combined with manual transmissions can still be appealing.
The camouflaged prototype was seen in Italy during what appears to be the final phase of development testing. Its overall shape retains familiar SUV proportions, although several design traits are quickly recognizable. Shorter overhangs and a more squared-off profile lend it a subtly more robust appearance compared to the previous model.
Slim Headlights, Concealed Grille, and an Element of Mystery
Earlier teasers hinted at slender LED headlights flanking a revised seven-slot grille, which is expected to feature illumination. However, on the prototype, that grille is completely obscured, likely concealing final specifications. The front bumper includes a cooling intake with active flaps, a design element intended to enhance aerodynamics, which is increasingly pertinent in the electric vehicle landscape.
Our spy photographers report that the prototype is equipped with a fully electric powertrain, explaining the lack of an exhaust pipe. Jeep has confirmed that the new Compass will be offered in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric variants. This aligns it with other Stellantis-branded SUVs sharing similar platforms and technologies.
A Significant Platform Upgrade
The next-generation Compass will finally discontinue its outdated FCA-era platform and transition to Stellantis’ more advanced STLA Medium architecture. This updated foundation is shared with models such as the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, Opel Grandland, and DS 8. It is also expected to support the forthcoming Citroen C5 Aircross and DS 7, marking Jeep’s shift towards a more adaptable and electrified future.
If the Compass utilizes specifications from the Peugeot e-3008, it could deliver up to 321 horsepower (239 kW / 325 PS) from a dual-motor setup, standardizing all-wheel drive on the top trim. The e-3008 offers battery options of 73 kWh and 97 kWh, both of which could be viable for the Jeep, depending on the lineup configuration.
Production of the new Compass is scheduled to commence in Italy later this year, with the rollout in the European market to follow shortly after. Initially, North American production was slated to begin in 2026 in Canada, but those plans are currently postponed. Ongoing uncertainty surrounding US tariffs on imported vehicles has reportedly delayed Jeep’s timeline for North America.
