Challenger Special Edition Priced Thousands Below MSRP With Only 13 Miles | Carscoops
Dodge produced only 500 Challenger R/T Scat Packs in Pitch Black.
Recently, a limited-edition Dodge Challenger Shakedown was sold for less than its MSRP, despite being brand new. This sale was made by the same dealership that had recently sold a rarer Demon 170 Jailbreak. The demand for V8 muscle cars is not necessarily ensuring that resale values increase after production.
Even in the modern muscle car market, limited edition models do not always yield significant returns. Earlier this week, a low-mileage Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat King Daytona was listed for auction on Bring a Trailer but did not sell after the bidding reached $93,500. Now, another of Dodge’s ‘Last Call’ specials has been sold at auction for $63,888 - a result that, while not terrible, still doesn't reach the original MSRP of $69,015.
The vehicle in question is virtually a brand new Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack, specifically the 'Shakedown' edition. This was the first of seven Last Call special variants of the Charger and Challenger, with only 1,000 units produced. Of those, half were Widebody models painted Pitch Black, like the one that was sold.
Given that the Challenger has been discontinued with no signs of return for the iconic V8-powered American muscle car (at least for now), one might have expected this vehicle to fetch a higher price than its original cost, but that was not the case.
Special Design, Familiar Components
Dodge made no mechanical enhancements, with the custom features being purely aesthetic. These include a Mopar Shaker hood, custom R/T badging, a red accent stripe over the hood and roof, and robust 20-inch wheels. This particular car was sold with only 13 miles (21 km) on the odometer after being recently acquired by the selling dealer. There is no information on how much the dealer purchased the car for, but it’s likely they did not turn a profit.
Interestingly, the dealership that sold this Challenger also previously sold the sole Panther Pink Challenger Demon 170 Jailbreak earlier this month for an impressive $450,000, making it nearly seven times as valuable as this R/T Scat Pack Shakedown.
The same seller is also offering a Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody King Daytona, which is almost identical to the one that failed to sell a few days prior. It is one of only 300 units made and has been driven for just 26 miles (42 km). At the time of writing, the bidding for this vehicle was at $95,000.
