The brand is aiming to concentrate on premium models, although there is also an interest in a more budget-friendly G70.
A Genesis representative has indicated that the brand is not focused on entry-level offerings.
The emphasis seems to be on the larger and more luxurious G80 and G90 models.
This puts the future of the G70 in question, as having three sedans might be excessive.
While several automakers have either abandoned sedans or reduced their selections, Genesis still offers three choices, ranging from the $42,500 G70 to the $89,700 G90. This range caters to nearly every type of luxury consumer.
However, this may change soon, as the company is reportedly looking to shift its focus to higher-end, larger vehicles. This could lead to the discontinuation of the G70.
A review of the 2024 Genesis G70 Turbo V6 indicates it is an improvement over its predecessors.
In an interview with Car and Driver, Genesis’ global product officer expressed that the idea of creating a front-wheel-drive model priced below $45,000 is appealing, similar to the Mercedes CLA.
Nevertheless, Marc Choi mentioned that Genesis is currently "resisting" this direction since their aim is to enhance the brand's equity. He added, “We want to concentrate on larger models like the G80, GV80, and G90 series, where we can establish more product value and equity for the brand.”
This does not bode well for the entry-level sedan; however, Choi also noted, “We aspire to potentially develop a next-generation G70 at a more affordable price point.” This could, however, create some overlap with Hyundai and Kia.
The G70's nearest rival was the Kia Stinger, which was discontinued in 2023. Although that sedan is no longer available, the Hyundai Grandeur is on the market in some regions and offers a level of luxury.
