Not This Again: Lucid Issues Recall for Floor Mats That May Lead to Unintended Acceleration

If there’s one component of vehicles that hasn’t changed much in the last few decades, it’s the floor mat. While it's a simple and basic item, some manufacturers and suppliers still manage to get it wrong. Lucid has revealed a recall involving over 4,000 all-weather floor mats designed for the Air, as these mats may slide around in the driver's footwell, potentially entrap the accelerator, and lead to unintended acceleration.

The recall, designated as SR-25-01-1 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, affects 4,294 units of the Air equipped with all-weather floor mats. These mats were produced between November 18, 2022, and December 29, 2023, and have the part number K11-YNXXX-00. There is another type of all-weather floor mat with a part number ending in 01, but those are not part of this recall.

Lucid informed the NHTSA that the recalled floor mat does not have an anchoring mechanism to keep it in place, allowing it to shift in the driver's footwell and "interfere with the accelerator returning to idle." In other words, the mat can slip over the pedal, causing the Air to accelerate unexpectedly, which raises the risk of a crash, although Lucid is not aware of any incidents related to this issue.

The concern arose in August 2024 when a sales associate in Europe reported that the accelerator pedal of a vehicle briefly got stuck "during heavy acceleration." Lucid technicians investigated but were unable to reproduce the issue. The company also received a separate complaint from a customer in the following month regarding the floor mat moving around, along with additional reports soon after.

Lucid plans to contact owners of vehicles with the affected floor mat starting May 23, 2025. A full refund will be offered, but replacement of the floor mat may not be possible due to some Air models lacking compatible anchor mechanisms for the updated mats. Owners of these vehicles will need to find an alternative way to secure an all-weather floor mat in the driver's footwell.

In the meantime, Lucid is advising Air owners with an unanchored floor mat to remove it from their car. If you're uncertain about which type of floor mat you have, there is a straightforward way to determine this. The recalled floor mat features “nibs” on the underside and lacks a hole for anchor attachment. The updated floor mats, in contrast, include an anchor hole, similar to most floor mats. Lucid has stated that it ceased the sale of the recalled floor mat in February 2025 and encourages Air owners to reach out to its customer service center for further assistance.
