Rumors Suggest the 2026 Dodge Charger Will Feature Hemi V8 Engine | Carscoops
Due to the Charger Daytona's inability to resonate with fans, the Hemi V8 could be making a comeback.
Engineers are said to be in the process of developing a new Dodge Charger featuring a Hemi V8 engine.
This model is anticipated to debut in late 2026, about 18 months after the Hurricane I6.
Given that the Sixpack variants can produce up to 550 hp, the Hemi version could deliver significant performance.
Earlier this month, a purported email suggested that the Ram 1500 would soon be available with 5.7- and 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engines. Additionally, a new variant of the TRX is expected to arrive, likely offering more power than the current model’s 702 hp (523 kW / 712 PS).
Following this, rumors emerged that Hemi production is set to commence in Michigan this summer. Now, a fresh report indicates that the V8 will be integrated into the new Charger.
Mopar Insiders has stated that the performance brand is “actively working” on reintroducing the V8 to the Charger lineup, with the Hemi expected to return by late 2026.
While performance specifications remain undisclosed, the previous 5.7-liter V8 generated 372 hp (277 kW / 377 PS) and the 6.4-liter version produced 485 hp (362 kW / 492 PS). These figures seem less impressive as the twin-turbo 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six is projected to yield 420 hp (313 kW / 426 PS) and 550 hp (410 kW / 558 PS).
This could imply that Dodge is planning performance-oriented V8 flagship models, which aligns with their history of producing Hellcats, Hellcat Redeyes, and Demons. However, only time will reveal what will ultimately occur.
It's important to note that, according to a report from late last year, Dodge engineers informed Jalopnik that fitting a Hemi V8 into the new Charger is more challenging than it seems. It would necessitate substantial platform modifications, including significant changes to the cradle and firewall. Such adjustments would necessitate a considerable investment from Stellantis, but as the saying goes, where there's a will, there's a way.
Additionally, reports indicate that Dodge has expedited the production of the Charger Sixpack, which is now set to commence in May with deliveries slated for this summer. Nonetheless, this change does not significantly alter the timeline, as Dodge had previously announced that the gas-powered Charger would be launched by this summer.
