GM Will Nullify the Warranty on Your Corvette ZR1 if You Resell It.
General Motors is once again imposing strict resale restrictions on its most desirable Corvette models, targeting those who flip cars for profit. The same stringent warranty clause previously applied to dealer allocations of the C8 Corvette Z06 will now also be enforced with the new twin-turbocharged Corvette ZR1.
After all, it is just a supercar designed to compete globally, featuring a custom engine without any prior track record. Feeling fortunate, aren’t you?
Rick Conti, a well-known source for Corvette updates, posted an image of the retention policy agreement on his YouTube channel. Buyers or lessees of a new Corvette ZR1 will need to sign a document stating that if they “sell or otherwise transfer ownership” of their vehicle within the first 12 months of receiving it, they will lose all warranties (including bumper-to-bumper and powertrain) and forfeit any chance to reserve or order any high-demand model from the GM lineup.
As before, the penalty extends to future owners. The agreement specifies that the original owner must inform any buyers of the loss of warranty coverage.
A spokesperson for GM confirmed to The Drive that both the policy and the document shown in the video are authentic.
If it feels like a repeat of 2022, you're not mistaken. GM implemented similar measures to deter flipping of its high-profile models during the COVID-related supply chain disruptions that heavily impacted inventories. Previously, this clause was applied to the Corvette Z06, Cadillac Escalade-V, and GMC Hummer EV. While GM still has a less-restrictive six-month “retention policy” for the Z06 and Corvette E-Ray, the ZR1 is facing a one-year restriction.
