Hyundai Hints at Insteroid Concept, Its Ideal Compact Electric Vehicle | Carscoops
This intriguing creation appears to have drawn some inspiration from Hyundai's i20 WRC racer.
The striking concept is influenced by the realm of video games and features an eccentric design.
It's uncertain what kind of mechanical modifications the brand has implemented on the vehicle.
Hyundai plans to reveal the Insteroid publicly next month.
In recent years, Hyundai has developed numerous high-performance electric concepts, demonstrating its dedication to producing enjoyable cars and maintaining a lighthearted approach. It seems to have achieved this once more with its latest initiative, dubbed the Insteroid.
This unique one-off has been teased through various images and a video, transforming the standard all-electric Inster by drawing inspiration from video games. As suggested by its name—a blend of 'Inster' and 'Steroid'—the vehicle will be showcased in early April.
The car appears to have very few similarities with the standard Inster. It features completely new bodywork, including notably large flared wheel arches at both the front and rear, reminiscent of the i20 N WRC car. The interior seems to be entirely stripped down, revealing a roll cage inside. Additionally, Hyundai's design team has crafted a set of aerodisc wheels and an impressive rear wing.
Numerous teasers of the vehicle shared on social media indicate it will include vibrant orange accents and a ghost logo that resembles something from Pac-Man. One teaser displays part of the car's interior instruments, which include Boost buttons, driving mode selections, and a track mode, as well as orange seatbelts.
According to Hyundai, the Insteroid is described as a “thrilling ‘glitch’ in the automotive matrix, seamlessly fusing the boundary-defying aesthetics of video games with real-world engineering to create a vehicle that seems to have emerged directly from a digital racetrack.”
The road-going Inster, which is based on the Casper, is available with a single electric motor delivering 95 hp in its base configuration and 113 hp in the top version. One can only hope that Hyundai equips the Insteroid with a more powerful powertrain, perhaps adopting the dual-motor setup from the Ioniq 5 N, which was utilized in the RN24 rolling lab model presented last year.
