This 1964 Chevy features a supercharged LT4 V8 engine, a 10-speed automatic transmission, coilover shocks, and heated BMW seats with new upholstery.

A unique two-door Chevelle Malibu wagon is set to be auctioned on March 22.

The restomodded 1964 model boasts a supercharged LT4 V8 engine that produces 650 hp.

It includes reupholstered BMW seats along with a complete brake and chassis upgrade.

Currently, Chevy offers nine SUVs in its US lineup, but no wagons. However, 61 years ago, the situation was different. At that time, SUVs were less common, and wagon shoppers had a variety of choices. The compact Chevy II, mid-sized Chevelle, and full-sized Biscayne/Bel Air/Impala were all available as wagons, but none had the muscle of this appealing restomod.

Scheduled for auction with Mecum on March 22, this vehicle originated as a 1964 Chevelle with the rare two-door configuration. Chevelle wagons were also available in a four-door version for additional practicality and a less hearse-like appearance, but the large rear side windows make this custom classic especially striking.

This Chevelle was modified by Dutch Boys Hot Rods in Vicksburg, Michigan, who installed a contemporary 650 hp (659 PS) GM LT4 V8 under the hood, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for excellent straight-line performance and comfortable highway driving.

Given that original ’64 Chevelles were never equipped with more than approximately 280 net hp (284 PS) new, substantial modifications were essential to support the LT4, and the Dutch Boys delivered. They included an Art Morrison Sport GT chassis kit, Strange Engineering coilover shocks, Wilwood brakes, and large Budnik wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

Custom specialist Art Himsl from Concord, California, refurbished the bodywork and applied the light yellow paint, while the interior received a tan leather makeover featuring reupholstered heated BMW seats. The elegantly woven carpet in the spacious trunk shows some wear, but a practical classic like this is meant to be used. The placement of the battery inside a wicker case in the trunk adds a stylish detail.

It’s clear that a significant amount was invested in this Chevelle at some point, but since Mecum does not provide an estimate, we will have to wait until 2025 to see what it fetches. You can view the full listing here, but if you're interested in bidding, act quickly as the auction concludes today.
