2026 VW T-Roc Remains Camouflaged Ahead of Its Launch, Yet We've Already Seen It Uncovered | Carscoops
VW's popular compact SUV transitions to the MQB Evo platform and incorporates the latest touchscreen technology from the Tiguan and Tayron.
The highly anticipated second-generation T-Roc from VW is set to launch this year.
The smaller sibling of the Tiguan has been spotted undergoing tests in Europe once again.
Recently revealed images have shown what's hidden beneath the camouflage.
While not VW's largest model, the T-Roc is undoubtedly one of its most crucial offerings. It even surpassed the iconic Golf in European sales for a period during the early 2020s, and there's a strong possibility that this new second-generation variant could achieve similar success.
VW introduced the current T-Roc in 2017, and the new version seen testing in northern Europe will feature various advanced technologies that were unavailable in the original, including the cutting-edge MQB Evo platform and the automaker’s latest tablet touchscreen equipped with ChatGPT support.

The camouflage on this prototype leads us to believe that one aspect that will remain consistent for T-Roc 2.0 is its exterior design, or at least it won't undergo significant changes. The cleverly applied adhesive camouflage mimics the appearance of the grille, lights, and bumpers on the current SUV, hiding its actual face, but unfortunately for VW, images of the unmasked vehicle were leaked online recently.
The leaked photos from Cochespias / Wilkoblock reveal that the T-Roc will feature a front-end design reminiscent of the new Tiguan and Tayron, with a horizontal LED bar positioned where the upper grille used to be, linking slim, slightly aggressive headlights. Air intake is now solely through the enlarged lower grille, which sports a large honeycomb pattern on R-Line models. Lower-tier trims are likely to have a more subdued grille design.
The same applies to the rear. The disguise on the prototype suggests that the rear lights are entirely separate. However, the leaked images confirm that the bulges on the rear hatch on either side of the VW logo (which will also be illuminated, similar to the front logo) are due to a second LED light bar spanning the width of the tailgate.
The engine options will include mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, with buyers able to choose between front-wheel and all-wheel drive. The T-Roc cabriolet will not return, and we are still awaiting confirmation regarding the R version's availability. A new choice for the second-generation SUV will be an electric powertrain, though the T-Roc EV will be based on a completely different platform.
