Bonhams is auctioning an iconic F1 car but hasn't disclosed whether it is in operational condition.

This Brawn GP car was driven by Rubens Barrichello throughout the 2009 season.

It retains the original Mercedes-Benz naturally aspirated V8 engine.

This vehicle was originally presented to Jenson Button, the 2009 Formula 1 world champion.

The Brawn GP Formula 1 team had a brief existence in 2009, yet it secured both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. Now, one of just three Brawn F1 cars produced is set to be auctioned during the Miami Grand Prix in May.

The tale of Brawn GP is unlikely to be replicated. The team was formed after Honda abruptly left the sport at the close of the 2008 season. Ross Brawn intervened to prevent the team’s dissolution and quickly arranged for an engine supply from Mercedes-Benz, ensuring the car was ready for its debut at the Australian Grand Prix.

When it was still called Honda, the team had largely ceased developing its 2008 model and concentrated on the 2009 season instead. This strategic shift allowed it to outpace its rivals, and upon its racing debut, it demonstrated exceptional speed. Jenson Button won six of the first seven races that year.

Bonhams has been assigned the sale of no. 001/01 of the three Brawn GP F1 cars produced. This particular vehicle was given to Button following his championship victory. His teammate, Rubens Barrichello, drove this car throughout the season, achieving nine top-ten finishes and four podiums, including second place at the Australian, Spanish, and Monaco Grand Prix.

This is the only Brawn F1 car available for public sale, still featuring the original Mercedes-Benz engine. The auction listing does not indicate if it is in working condition, nor does it provide an estimated selling price. However, given its rarity and significance, it is anticipated that bidders will be prepared to invest a considerable amount.
