Shelby's Eruption Green GT500KR Will Leave You Awe-Struck With 900 Furious Horses | Carscoops

      The Shelby GT500KR package brought a notable increase in power and additional features, along with a cost of $54,995, to the standard model.

      Shelby has incorporated a new 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger, an intercooler, and a heat exchanger.

      With carbon fiber components and 20-inch wheels, the GT500KR has an even more aggressive appearance.

      There are only two GT500KRs in Eruption Green Metallic, with this particular one going to auction.

      The previous Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 already packed a punch with its 760 horsepower delivered by a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine. However, Shelby American elevated this with an even more extreme version named the GT500KR, produced in a limited series of only 180 units over three years.       This Mustang Shelby GT500KR is one of just two units finished in Eruption Green Metallic, and it looks absolutely stunning. In creating the KR, Shelby made significant modifications to the bodywork of the standard GT500, including a new carbon fiber hood with multiple air extraction vents. It also features a carbon front splitter, carbon side skirts, a gurney flap on the rear spoiler, and new forged 20-inch wheels.

      More important than the appearance enhancements are the mechanical upgrades. Shelby did extensive work on the muscle car’s 5.2-liter V8, equipping it with a new 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger, a strengthened intercooler, and a new heat exchanger. Additionally, there's a cold air intake and a Borla catback exhaust system, enabling the car to produce 900 hp. That's 140 hp more than the factory GT500 and 85 hp more than the latest track-focused Mustang GTD. All that power is delivered exclusively to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

      The modifications by Shelby didn’t stop there. The company also installed height-adjustable springs, performance half-shafts, recalibrated the MagneRide suspension, added caster and camber plates, and included Ford Performance sway bars. The car’s green paint contrasts with Star White Metallic hood stripes and accents.

      Inside, Shelby maintained a focus on performance. The interior has been stripped down, replacing the back seat with leather seats that have been tailored for additional style. To complement the Eruption Green Metallic exterior, there’s a harness bar matching the color inside.

      Mecum Auctions is managing the sale of this unique vehicle, and it will be interesting to see the final bid. Originally, the GT500KR package increased the price of a standard GT500 by $54,995.
