With a 10.3 kWh battery pack and as much as 900W of solar panels, the 20Xe is designed for adventure.
Airstream has introduced the new Basecamp 20Xe, a durable travel trailer equipped with all-terrain tires.
Intended for boondocking, it is outfitted with 600W solar panels and a 10.3 kWh lithium battery pack.
Thanks to the robust battery, users can operate air conditioning and a microwave while off-grid.
Boondocking has surged in popularity as many campers prefer immersing themselves in nature rather than staying at bustling campgrounds. Airstream has recognized this trend and is expanding its offerings with the new Basecamp 20Xe.
Essentially an off-grid iteration of the Basecamp 20, the latest travel trailer from the company features a 10.3 kWh Battle Born lithium battery bank along with 600W of roof-mounted solar panels. It also includes a fully inverted 30A electrical system powered by a 3,000W inverter.
Thanks to these enhancements, the Basecamp 20Xe serves as a cozy home away from home. Even when off-grid, users can utilize the optional microwave and air conditioning. Additionally, there are several outlets available to keep your devices and gear charged for your adventures.
While the solar panels help prolong outdoor stays, those aiming to extend their time away from grid connections will appreciate the upgraded solar prewire port, allowing for the easy addition of an extra 300W of solar panels.
To avoid a chilly night due to power loss, the combined water heater and furnace system can run on electricity, propane, or a combination of both, supported by a 20-pound propane tank.
Water usage is another key concern for off-grid travelers, so Airstream has made provisions for this by offering an optional composting toilet. Additionally, there is a "recirculating feature" in the wet bath that minimizes water waste by redirecting cold water from the hot water heater back to the fresh tank until it reaches the desired temperature.
As the Basecamp 20Xe is built for adventure, it comes equipped with the Airstream X package as standard. This includes a 3-inch (76 mm) lift, all-terrain tires, and protective black-coated trim to shield against dings from brush and branches.
The interior design is carried over from the Basecamp 20 and includes a convertible dinette at the front as well as two rear benches that can be converted into a bed. This design allows the trailer to accommodate up to four individuals despite its compact size.
Notable features also include a sink and a removable single-burner induction cooktop that can be used inside or outdoors. Additionally, it boasts a three-speaker JBL audio system, LED lighting, and what appears to be a refrigerator/freezer.
The company did not disclose pricing, but the Basecamp 20 starts at $56,900, and the extra features are likely to significantly increase the total cost. Nevertheless, many customers will undoubtedly appreciate the enhanced freedom.
As stated by Airstream President and CEO Bob Wheeler, “The Basecamp Xe is a testament to the fact that today’s travelers seek the freedom to embark on whatever type of trip they envision. With this genuinely electric-first travel trailer, we are raising the bar and enabling Airstream owners to maximize their travel adventures.”
