Volvo Dealers Set to Offer Polestars to Increase Sales | Carscoops

The initiative could nearly double the number of Polestar retailers in the near future.

Some Volvo dealerships will begin offering Polestar vehicles in an effort to enhance sluggish sales.

This adjustment is anticipated to nearly double the retailer count in Europe and North America.

The decision is part of a broader strategy to enable Polestar to achieve an annual growth rate of at least 30%.

The distinction between Volvo and Polestar is becoming increasingly unclear as the all-electric brand seeks to leverage Volvo’s extensive dealership network. This marks a significant change, as the company has previously depended on online sales and a limited number of dedicated Polestar Spaces.

According to Automobilwoche, Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller confirmed this development at a conference in Germany, emphasizing that it is expected to significantly boost sales. He stated, “Our targets for growth of 30 to 35 percent each year from 2024 to 2027 cannot be accomplished through online sales alone.”

The move will greatly expand Polestar's presence, with Automotive News reporting that the number of dealers in Europe will increase from 70 to 130. In North America, an additional 21 Polestar retailers are anticipated.

While only a small number of Volvo dealers are likely to sell Polestar vehicles initially, this figure may expand over time. There is considerable potential, as Volvo has around 2,300 dealers across more than 100 countries.

This initiative comes amidst a changing electric vehicle market, evolving political landscapes, and rising global trade tensions. Against this backdrop, Polestar’s sales fell by 15% last year, totaling 44,851 units, a decline from the 52,796 vehicles sold in 2023.

Although the addition of more retailers is expected to stimulate sales, it may result in competitive comparisons, given the similarities between Polestar and Volvo. Nonetheless, there are notable differences, such as the Polestar 3 starting at $67,500, while the Volvo EX90 starts at $81,290 and includes a third-row seat. Both models share the same SPA2 platform and have a matching wheelbase of 117.5 inches (2,985 mm).
