Mahindra has launched the Scorpio-N Carbon Edition for the Indian market.
This dark-themed special edition commemorates the achievement of 200,000 sales of the ladder-frame SUV.
It is offered exclusively in black with dark accents, featuring both gasoline and diesel engine options.
Mahindra adds another entry to its lineup of black-themed specials with the Scorpio-N Carbon Edition. While it marks the 200,000 sales milestone of the Scorpio-N in India, the name is somewhat misleading as it lacks any carbon fiber elements.
The Mahindra Scorpio-N debuted in 2022 and quickly became a favorite among Indian consumers. This ladder-frame SUV is the successor to the original Scorpio, which has been in the market since 2002 and continues to be sold as the Scorpio Classic. However, the new model is built on updated foundations and showcases a contemporary design along with advanced technology features.
Self-styled as the "Big Daddy Of SUVs," it now features the characteristic blacked-out aesthetic that has become a common trope among automakers when they run short on ideas for special editions.
The exterior comes exclusively in a Metallic Black hue, accentuated with smoked chrome details that replace the shiny elements of the standard Scorpio-N. The 18-inch alloy wheels are finished in Piano Black, and the roof rails sport a Dark Galvano finish. Additionally, the headlights and taillights have a subtly smoked look, enhancing the vehicle’s menacing appearance.
Inside, Mahindra designers opted for black leatherette seats with contrasting stitching. The Carbon Edition forgoes any genuine or faux carbon fiber elements in favor of smoked chrome accents. It is offered solely in a three-row, seven-seater configuration and is based on the high-end Z8 and Z8L variants. This means standard features include an 8-inch infotainment system, a sunroof, and a 12-speaker audio system.
For performance, the Scorpio-N is offered with either a 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 197 hp (149 kW / 200 PS) or a 2.2-liter diesel engine generating 173 hp (129 kW / 175 PS). Both engines can be paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The gasoline variant powers the rear wheels, while the diesel version also offers an optional four-wheel drive.
The price of the Mahindra Scorpio-N Carbon Edition ranges from ₹19,19,400 ($22,000) to ₹24,89,099 ($28,500) in India, depending on the powertrain choice. This reflects a slight increase of ₹20,000 ($230) compared to the corresponding trims of the standard Scorpio-N.
Its main competitor in the ladder-frame SUV segment is the similarly styled Tata Harrier Dark Edition, which is built on Land Rover's unibody platform.
