2026 Skoda Space: All the Details We Have on the Electrified Large SUV | Carscoops
Skoda's upcoming seven-seat electric SUV has the popular Model Y in its sights.
The three-row electric SUV from Skoda promises a roomy interior designed to accommodate up to seven passengers.
Measuring 4.9 meters in length, its design has been toned down compared to the Vision 7S concept.
Constructed on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB+ platform, the Space is expected to share specifications with the ID.7.
Skoda is set to introduce its next big electric vehicle: a three-row, seven-seat electric SUV currently being tested in Europe, with an anticipated launch in 2026. Officially named the Skoda ‘Space,’ this model aims to be the electric counterpart to the well-liked Kodiaq, combining practicality and advanced technology.
Inspired by the Vision 7S concept first showcased in 2022, the Space will be a 4.9-meter-long electric SUV featuring modern design elements. However, it’s clear that the production version has been significantly toned down from the concept model. Still, we can provide a glimpse into what is to come. Let's explore what we know about the Skoda Space thus far.
Distinctive Design
The largest crossover from the Czech manufacturer adopts its new ‘Modern Solid’ design language, which was first introduced with the smaller Skoda Elroq electric SUV and has appeared on the recently updated Enyaq. This design incorporates the ‘Tech-Deck Face,’ featuring a slim grille panel flanked by narrow LED headlights and daytime running lights.
Aligning with the concept's emphasis on aerodynamics, the Space will include an angled lower front apron and air skirts. On the sides, the frameless windows seen in the concept have been replaced with a more conventional boxy glasshouse. To maintain a clean aesthetic, the vehicle also incorporates scalloped front and rear haunches and flush door handles.
At the back, the Space will feature slender LED taillights and a tailgate spoiler with a recessed center section aimed at enhancing aerodynamics and reducing drag.
Functional and Elegant
Skoda is recognized for its smart interior layouts and convenient features, and the Space will follow suit with fabric-lined door pockets, mini trash bins, hidden umbrella storage, and impressive rear cargo space reminiscent of the Tardis. If you haven't experienced a contemporary Skoda, you're truly missing out.
We can expect ample space for seven passengers across three rows of seating, along with a 14.6-inch touchscreen, an 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster, an augmented-reality head-up display, and a rectangular two-spoke steering wheel. Additionally, the second-row center console will include an integrated child seat.
Key Details
Last month, we caught our first glimpse of the Skoda Space prototype undergoing testing in the open.
Although Skoda hasn’t yet disclosed technical specifics for the seven-seat electric SUV, it’s anticipated to be built on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB+ platform, utilized by the larger VW ID.7 and its Tourer estate version. At nearly 192.9 inches in length, it promises a combination of flexibility and ample space.
In terms of powertrain, the Space is expected to adopt the ID.7’s setup. For reference, the VW ID.7 comes equipped with an 86-kWh battery and a rear motor generating 282 horsepower (210 kW), with a WLTP range of up to 709 kilometers (441 miles) on a full charge, although VW achieved up to 941 km (585 miles) in a compression test. Both rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations are expected to be available.
Competition and Launch
The Space will contend with strong competition in the electric SUV segment, facing rivals such as the Hyundai Ioniq 9, Kia’s similarly designed EV9, Tesla Model Y, Volvo EX90, Peugeot e-5008, Mercedes-Benz EQB, and Honda Prologue. It's a competitive landscape, but if Skoda can deliver on its commitments, the Space could establish a solid position in the expanding EV market.
An official unveiling is anticipated towards the end of this year, with sales beginning in 2026. With its captivating design and promising powertrain, the Skoda Space could be a vehicle worth the wait.
