The 2026 Polestar 3 will be equipped with a new Nvidia Drive Agx Orin processor.
Owners of the current model can upgrade to the new chip at no cost.
A software update enables Apple Wallet to "hold" the car keys of the owner.
Over-the-air software updates are quite common now, but when was the last time you heard about a free hardware upgrade? You probably can't recall, but that's exactly what Polestar 3 owners are receiving.
Today, the automaker announced that the 2026 Polestar 3 will include a new and more powerful Nvidia Drive Agx Orin processor, which replaces the existing Xavier processor, offering "even greater computing power."

While it’s expected for the latest model to feature updated technology from the factory, Polestar shared that the new processor will also be installed in current vehicles. The hardware upgrade will take place at Polestar service centers, and customers will be informed when a processor is ready for installation in their vehicle.
Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller stated, “The ability to upgrade the hardware of our cars when new technologies become available is a perfect demonstration of our commitment to provide the best ownership experience for our customers. With the Orin processor upgrade, the already exceptional Polestar 3 improves even further.”
In addition to announcing the hardware update, Polestar introduced a new over-the-air software update for models 2, 3, and 4. The specifics vary by vehicle, but most updates consist of minor stability and convenience improvements.
Notably, the Polestar 3 will receive several significant enhancements, including walk-away locking, wireless Apple CarPlay, and digital key support for Android devices (Samsung and Google Pixel). Apple users will also benefit from the ability to store their car keys in Apple Wallet.
This feature allows owners to "automatically unlock or lock and start their vehicle while keeping their iPhone in their pocket or simply wearing their Apple Watch." Additionally, customers can share car keys with up to five other individuals through Messages, Mail, AirDrop, and WhatsApp. Interestingly, these shared keys can provide full access or limit others to unlocking the doors without allowing them to drive.
