The compact model will be designed by Mercedes and will be based on the Zeekr 007.

A new Smart vehicle is set to launch in 2025, and it will share its foundation with the Zeekr 007.

The Smart #6 will mark the brand’s first sedan, joining a range that includes three SUVs.

This competitor to the Tesla Model 3 may be available in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid versions.

Reports indicate that Smart is planning to introduce its inaugural sedan, potentially debuting later this year. This electric model is expected to be named the Smart #6, following the phasing out of the Smart Fortwo city car and joining an SUV-centered portfolio.

Positioned as the flagship model, the Smart #6 will take on the Tesla Model 3. It is anticipated to launch primarily as an electric vehicle, though a plug-in hybrid variant might be introduced as part of Smart’s revitalized product strategy.

The Smart #3 Brabus is highlighted as an impressive EV that challenges the Model Y Performance.

As with the entire Smart lineup, Mercedes-Benz will handle the design, while Geely will manage research, development, and production.

According to Autocar, the sedan will utilize the same platform as the Zeekr 007 sedan and GT models, specifically the PMA2+ architecture, which derives from Geely’s widely-adopted Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA).

Smart’s current portfolio includes the #5, #2, and #3 SUVs.

The powertrain will offer both single and dual electric motor configurations, drawing energy from 75 kWh and 100 kWh battery packs, respectively. A Brabus version could generate up to 637 hp (475 kW / 646 PS), placing it on par with its Zeekr counterpart and making it the most powerful Smart to date.

The low-profile sedan will also be the most aerodynamic in the lineup, exceeding the Smart #3 coupe SUV in this regard. Its streamlined design is expected to contribute to an estimated range of “well over 800 km (500 miles)” on the more optimistic CLTC cycle, aligning with the Zeekr 007 sedan, which can achieve up to 870 km (540 miles) on a full charge.

The Smart #6 is anticipated to be revealed in 2025, with a market introduction slated for early 2026. Recently, the automaker announced plans to enter over ten new markets this year, expanding its footprint in South America, Africa, and Europe. In 2024, Smart reported sales of 130,000 vehicles, with the majority registered in China.
