Rivian Seems To Be Hinting At A Rugged R1T | Carscoops
The long-anticipated R1X may make its debut next week.
Rivian has shared several teasers indicating a rugged version of the R1T is on the horizon.
Scheduled to debut on February 19, this model could be the R1X that has been rumored.
Though nothing has been confirmed, a tougher model could compete with offerings from Scout and Hummer.
Rivian appears to have something in store, having posted a sequence of teasing images and messages on social media and via email. One message hinted that “something’s shifting on the horizon,” accompanied by an image stating, “A mirage takes shape Feb 19.”
The image seems to portray a sand dune seen through a window, but the size suggests it is not from the rear quarter glass of either the R1S or R2S. This might be because the image actually showcases a view through the gear tunnel of the R1T.

The other teasers are similarly cryptic; one features tire tracks in the desert, while another depicts spikes jutting out of the sand. The fourth image is more revealing, as its sculpted cladding seems to belong to an R1T or R1S.
Although this provides limited information, some enthusiasts speculate the teasers might be linked to an announcement related to the Dakar Rally. Others pointed out that the reveal is set for the day before the company’s 2024 earnings report, implying it may serve as a distraction from potentially lackluster results.
Only time will confirm this, but Rivian has previously stated they manufactured 49,476 vehicles last year and delivered 51,579 units, asserting these figures were “in line with management’s full-year 2024 guidance of 47,000 to 49,000 vehicles produced and 50,500 to 52,000 vehicles delivered.”
While we await further developments from Rivian, rumors suggest they have been developing a rugged version of the R1X. This model is anticipated to be an off-road-ready variant of the R1S, R1T, or possibly both, making it a sensible addition to their lineup to compete with adventure-ready models from Hummer and Scout.
