It’s a Christmas miracle: Dodge has discovered a way to make the loudest family car legal | Carscoops
A powerful SUV that was previously prohibited in CARB states is now street-legal nationwide, and Dodge celebrated the occasion with a holiday-themed promotion.
Dodge's Durango SRT Hellcat is now approved for sale in all 50 states.
After being banned in CARB jurisdictions, it has now met emissions regulations.
The new promotional campaign features Santa escaping from jail in a Hellcat SUV.
The anticipated day has arrived: just in time for the holiday season, Dodge has announced that the formidable Durango SRT Hellcat is now permissible in all states across the country.
To celebrate this milestone, Dodge has launched a playful new social media campaign. In the promotional video, Santa escapes from a rural jail with assistance from Mrs. Claus and makes a thrilling getaway in a Hellcat-powered Durango, exclaiming, “This Christmas Season, the Jailbreak is back!”
Hellcat Unleashed Nationwide
In August, Dodge confirmed that all 2026 Durango models would come equipped with V8 engines, and the Hellcat variant would continue to be offered.
At that time, however, the high-performance SUV was only authorized for sale in non-CARB states. By November, Dodge had successfully obtained certification in ten CARB states, such as Colorado, Minnesota, Rhode Island, and Virginia.
Now, stricter emissions states have joined the ranks as well. Customers in California, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Oregon, Washington, and Vermont can officially purchase the R/T 392 and the Hellcat. Indeed, the ultimate V8 family vehicle is now available in all 50 states.
The Durango SRT Hellcat was first introduced for the 2021 model year but was discontinued after just one run due to its struggle to meet tightening emissions standards in 2022. Fortunately, Dodge reintroduced it in 2023, and it’s here to stay.
Despite the current Durango platform dating back to 2010, Dodge remains confident in sustained demand.
“There’s no halting the momentum the Dodge Durango is experiencing, which includes 14 consecutive months of sales growth,” stated Dodge CEO Matt McAlear. “With the Durango SRT Hellcat now unleashed and available in all 50 states, that momentum is only going to continue to grow.”
