New Dodge Hellcat Now Available for Purchase in Ten Additional States | Carscoops
The only version of the 2026 Dodge Durango that can currently be found in all states is the 5.7-liter model with 360 hp.
The 6.4-liter and Hellcat Durango models have been prohibited in 17 states, including California, New York, Washington, and Vermont.
Dodge still manufactures a V6 Durango, but it is exclusively available for fleets and agencies.
In August, Dodge thrilled car enthusiasts by announcing that all 2026 Durango models would feature V8 engines, comprising its 5.7-liter, 6.4-liter, and 6.2-liter supercharged engines.
However, an important detail accompanied this announcement: the 6.4-liter R/T 392 and Hellcat models were only authorized for sale in non-CARB states in the United States.
As a result, buyers in any of the 17 CARB-regulated states could not order or purchase a 2026 Durango unless they selected the base 5.7-liter with 360 hp.
Fortunately, Dodge has acted quickly to remedy this situation and opened orders for the new model in 10 CARB states last month. By the end of this year, it should secure approval for sale in the remaining 7 CARB states, which would make the R/T 392 and Hellcat available across the country.
Last month, orders were opened for the model in Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Virginia. This leaves California, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Washington, and Vermont still awaiting approval.
Information about the upcoming CARB approval for the 6.4-liter and 6.2-liter supercharged V8 models was derived from a dealer guide recently released by Mopar Insiders. It remains uncertain what modifications Dodge may have made to the Durango to allow it to be sold in every state.
While the 2026 Durango is only accessible to private buyers with one of the three V8 engines, Dodge still produces the SUV using the traditional 3.6-liter naturally aspirated Pentastar V6. Yet, this variant is only available for government and fleet purchasers.
