Infiniti is Introducing a Legendary Engine for Its Top-Selling SUV | Carscoops
The QX80 R-spec will make its debut later this month, ahead of its introduction at SEMA.
Infiniti has provided a preview of the QX80 R-spec, positioning it as a lowered, high-performance luxury SUV. This follows the recent release of the 650+ hp QX80 Track Spec earlier this summer.
Infiniti is actively looking to enhance the QX80 lineup, and they will showcase a new concept called the QX80 R-spec at next month’s SEMA Show.
While details are scarce, the model will be revealed on October 27 and is described as a “bold blend of muscle and elegance.” Infiniti also suggested increased power, indicating that “the legend lives under the hood.”
Although this information is limited, the automaker released a few teaser images. One image displays the R-spec badging, reminiscent of the GT-R T-spec emblem, while another shows the model's lowered stance and rear bumper featuring cutouts for a quad exhaust system.
Given the badging and Nissan’s mention of a “legend” under the hood, it's enticing to consider the possibility of the GT-R’s twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 being integrated into this large SUV, though that remains speculative for now.
More details are expected to emerge next week, but the model follows closely after the QX80 Track Spec concept. This concept hinted at a potential competitor to the Cadillac Escalade-V, featuring an upgraded twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 generating over 650 hp (485 kW / 659 PS) and 750 lb-ft (1,016 Nm) of torque, which is an increase of more than 200 hp (149 kW / 203 PS) and 234 lb-ft (317 Nm).
In addition to powertrain enhancements, the concept was outfitted with an aggressive body kit that included a front splitter, extended side skirts, and prominent fender flares. Designers also equipped the luxury SUV with a four-tailpipe exhaust system, a rear diffuser, and 24-inch wheels supported by a Brembo braking system.
