Dislike Depreciation? You May Want to Steer Clear of Jeep's Wrangler 4xe | Carscoops
Jeep's plug-in hybrid experienced a significant depreciation of tens of thousands of dollars after just 10,000 miles and a minor Carfax incident, leading to concerns about its long-term value.
Reportedly, the Wrangler 4xe lost nearly 50% of its value after only 10,300 miles. The seller suggested that the Carfax issue arose from a lost key situation. This has caused buyers to question whether a lost key would warrant a report.
For those seeking a Jeep Wrangler that excels in everyday driving, off-road capability, and reasonable fuel efficiency, the Rubicon X 4xe is an appealing option. However, it does not present a strong case for long-term resale value. If maintaining resale value is a top priority for you, this is certainly not the kind of vehicle to consider.
Previously, we reported on a Wrangler Sport S 4xe that had an original price tag of $60,840 but ultimately sold for just $32,750.
Now, another 4xe has gone through the Cars & Bids auction, experiencing an even steeper depreciation, losing nearly $40,000 in value after only 10,300 miles (16,500 km) despite being a 2024 model. What went wrong?
Carfax Issues
The problem with this Wrangler is linked to a mark on its Carfax report. Earlier this year, it was flagged for minor damage, which Carfax describes as typically cosmetic, involving dents or scratches on the vehicle.
However, the seller asserts that the minor damage claim stemmed from a lost key incident, which was addressed through Jeep's supplemental protection plan. Some commenters on the listing disputed this, arguing that a lost key should not trigger a Carfax report.
Moreover, it seems the seller went quiet a few days before the auction concluded, even though they had previously stated they would provide documentation regarding the lost keys.
As for the Wrangler itself, it appears to be in good shape. The white paint with blue and black highlights looks clean and well-maintained, unlikely to dissuade potential buyers based on appearance.
In detail, the window sticker indicates that the Wrangler includes the $8,950 Customer Preferred Package 29Y. This package provides premium features such as upgraded seating, a heated steering wheel, acoustic front door glass, an Alpine sound system, Nappa leather upholstery, and a remote-start system, among other enhancements.
Despite having an MSRP of $72,410, it ultimately sold for just $33,500, representing a drop of $38,910, or approximately half of its original value. If that’s not a bargain, we’re not sure what is.
