The designer has reinterpreted the 2-Series by incorporating iX3 headlights and taillights for a more balanced appearance.

This facelift concept offers the BMW coupe sharper dimensions and sleeker lines.

BMW’s design transition to Neue Klasse could redefine the 2-Series in the next two years.

The BMW 2-Series achieves a rare occurrence in contemporary automotive design: it appears as if it has lost a battle with itself. Coupes are expected to be aesthetically pleasing, yet somehow this model seems to have been styled in the dark. Among the current trends of dubious design choices, that’s quite a notable achievement.

Fortunately, BMW is on the brink of a significant design revival. The automaker has indicated that its Neue Klasse design language, which first appeared on the iX3, will transform its entire range in the coming years, suggesting that the 2-Series could soon see a makeover.

      Revisiting the Design

In my opinion, the least favorable view of any car is the rear. While the original had pleasing proportions, I’ve always found the current model's taillights too low and oddly shaped. To enhance the rear aesthetics of the 2-Series, designer Theottle has visualized how it could look with the same lights as the newly introduced iX3.

These new units are slimmer and wider compared to those on the existing model and appear far less bug-eyed. The updated taillights are complemented by a heavily customized rear bumper and a new diffuser, both contributing to a more appealing appearance.

Next, focusing on the front end, the standard headlights, daytime running lights, and triangular-shaped air intakes have always seemed a bit unusual. In revamping the Bimmer's front, Theottle has borrowed the sharp new headlights and kidney grilles from the iX3, which surprisingly fit the overall shape of the 2-Series quite well.

      When Might a Facelift Occur?

Several upcoming Neue Klasse-based models from Munich have already been seen undergoing testing, including the electric M3 and the refreshed 7-Series. However, prototypes of a revised 2-Series have yet to be spotted, leaving its timeline uncertain.

Consequently, it's challenging to predict when it might reach the market, but if it receives approval, we anticipate its launch within the next couple of years.
