A Significant Price Reduction Could Finally Make Mazda’s CX-70 Hybrid Justifiable | Carscoops
Mazda's plug-in hybrid SUV boasts 323 hp and now offers a slightly enhanced electric-only range of 30 miles.

The revised CX-70 PHEV now has a starting price of $44,250, down from $54,400 last year.
Sales of the two-row CX-70 are significantly lower compared to its three-row counterpart, the CX-90.
The PHEV versions include a 2.5-liter turbo engine, an electric motor, and a 17.8 kWh battery.
It appears that Mazda is pursuing a more aggressive strategy with its somewhat complex mid-size SUV lineup. For 2026, the CX-70 has received several updates, but the notable news is financial rather than mechanical: the plug-in hybrid now costs over $10,000 less than its previous price.
This major price reduction makes the electrified variant a much more appealing choice, especially as it is now competitively priced with the standard inline-six CX-70 models, while still providing increased power and efficiency.
The CX-70, a two-row version of the CX-90, entered Mazda’s U.S. offerings in 2025. Despite sharing significant similarities with its larger sibling, sales have not reached expected levels.
Sales Performance
In the first nine months of this year, CX-70 sales totaled 12,256 units, which represents a 150.7 percent increase from the same period last year. However, this figure is modest compared to the 44,709 CX-90s sold during the same timeframe.
September was particularly challenging, as CX-70 sales fell by 57.5 percent. Mazda is evidently relying on these updates, especially the adjusted pricing, to help the two-row SUV gain stronger traction in the market.
For the 2026 model year, the CX-70 3.3 Turbo Preferred starts from $42,250, an increase from last year’s $40,445. Although the updates are minor, all CX-70 variants now feature gloss black exterior accents as standard.
The Turbo Preferred variant now also includes standard features such as ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and eight-way adjustable seats for the driver and front passenger.
Mazda CX-70 Pricing
In addition, four other trim levels with the 3.3-liter engine are available: Turbo Premium ($46,280), Turbo Premium Plus ($49,570), Turbo S Premium ($53,240), and Turbo S Premium Plus ($56,670), all of which have seen price increases. However, the situation is quite different for the PHEV models.
Plug-In as the Strong Value
Mazda's significant change is with the plug-in hybrid. Previously offered in Premium and Premium Plus trims priced at $54,400 and $57,450, the PHEV now comes in two new trims: the PHEV SC at $44,250 and the PHEV SC Plus at $47,250. These prices represent a substantial reduction of over $10,000, positioning the plug-in hybrid as one of the best values in Mazda’s lineup.
Under the hood, the PHEV retains its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and a 17.8 kWh battery. The total system output remains robust at 323 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
For 2026, Mazda has also enhanced the electric-only range from 26 miles to 30 miles, likely making it the most attractive variant of the CX-70 available.
