Updated Tesla Model 3 Subtly Receives the Features You Requested, But Only Internationally | Carscoops

Two highly requested features are set to be introduced in one of the best-selling EVs abroad, although drivers in the US may have to wait.

These updates were recently announced for markets in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.

In August, Tesla revealed the addition of stalks to EVs manufactured in China.

It's still uncertain if there are any intentions to implement similar updates in the US.

While many agree that the refreshed Model 3, unveiled two years ago, represents an improvement over its predecessor, there is one feature that many people disapprove of: the lack of a turn signal stalk. For reasons unknown, Tesla opted to relocate the turn signals to the steering wheel. Other manufacturers, such as Ferrari, have made a similar choice, but Elon Musk’s vehicles appeal to a much broader customer base.

However, to our surprise, traditional stalks are making a return, though only in Model 3s delivered to three specific Asian markets. This week, Tesla showcased an updated Model 3 that will be available in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. In its promotional materials, the company revealed that the modified Model 3 includes a turn signal stalk located on the steering column, where it ideally belongs.

      A Quiet Reversal

The return of the stalk is not entirely unprecedented. In addition to retaining them on the updated Model Y, Tesla also discreetly reintroduced it for the Chinese-market Model 3 in August, even offering retrofits for older vehicles at 2,499 yuan, or about $350. This expansion now encompasses three additional countries, indicating that Tesla has completely reinstated the hardware into its production line.

Alongside the reintroduction of the stalk for the Model 3 in Asia, the company has also installed a front-facing camera on the bumper. This is a feature that Tesla enthusiasts have been advocating for years, and it should help alleviate the stress of parking in tight spots.

      What About The US?

Despite these updates in Asian markets, Tesla has not yet confirmed whether similar enhancements will be made to cars sold in the US. However, it seems unusual not to do so. Clearly, the company has secured suppliers for these components and possesses the necessary tooling for installation, so it will likely just be a matter of incorporating them into US-manufactured vehicles.
