A Honda dealer has acknowledged adding a markup of $10K to $15K on every Civic Type R sold.
A Reddit user highlighted the dealer's "Additional Dealer Profit" fee, which caused a backlash.
The Acura Integra Type S provides similar performance and is often priced at or below MSRP.
While the new-car market has settled down from its pandemic highs, some dealers persist in overcharging customers and tarnishing their brand's image. Honda of Fort Myers is a notable example, quietly adding $10,000 to $15,000 to each Civic Type R sold. This is not mere speculation; a salesperson at the dealership confirmed this to Carscoops, and, surprisingly, it may not even be the most frustrating aspect.

The vehicle causing outrage on Reddit is a 2025 Civic Type R in Boost Blue Pearl with a black interior. The dealer lists it for $47,975, and there's a button prompting users to “Unlock Best Price,” which requests personal information before indicating that someone will reach out to them. Buyers need not worry about sharing their information, as Honda of Fort Myers claims, “we don’t just sell cars – we welcome you into our family. Let us be your trusted partner for all your automotive needs.”
Family Loyalty—With Strings Attached
How would your family approach the cost of a new car? Would they charge you an extra $10K to $15K beyond Honda’s stated price for this vehicle? If that’s the case, you might already belong to the Honda of Fort Myers family. On a more positive note, at least the dealer openly discloses the markup once you’re either in the dealership or on the phone.
A sticker posted on Reddit shows a staggering $15,000 fee for "Additional Dealer Profit." Furthermore, they are adding $599 for all-weather floor mats and another $399 for door edge guards. At least they haven't started charging extra for air in the tires yet.
Negative Reactions Online
The online response was overwhelmingly negative, not only toward the dealer but also regarding the situation overall. “That upcharge should be illegal, but Honda does nothing about it. COMPLETE SCAM,” one commenter stated. Another remarked, “It’s called ripping off customers because the sales are down from ripping off customers!”
The most surprising aspect of this entire situation is that the Acura Integra Type S outperforms in every category, comes with an MSRP of $54,095, and is often sold at that price or even lower due to discounts. The takeaway for consumers is clear: it may be wise to avoid Honda of Fort Myers if you're seeking a good deal on a Civic Type R. The takeaway for Honda is also evident: prevent dealers like this from having access to vehicles they significantly mark up.
