It seems that the speculation regarding the Audi RS6 E-Tron EV being canceled was premature. Although there were recent indications that Audi might abandon plans for a fully electric version in favor of a plug-in hybrid model, our sources in Europe have just spotted the battery-powered RS6 both at Audi’s private testing facility and in public, specifically at the Nürburgring, where these images were captured.

We’ve known for some time that Audi was working on both plug-in and battery-electric variants of its long-roof super-cruiser. However, just days ago, there were rumors from Europe suggesting that the all-electric model was being entirely scrapped. This leads to one of two possibilities: either Top Gear misreported, or this vehicle isn’t truly an RS6.

Since we weren’t privy to the discussions at Top Gear, we can't comment on their sources, but we do have visual evidence. Just a few weeks earlier, a gasoline-powered version was spotted engaging in similar activities. When compared side-by-side, it becomes quite plausible to argue that we’re observing the electric counterpart. They both feature the same large, uncovered fender vents and comparable rear hatch spoilers, and their wheel size and ride height appear nearly identical as well.

Naturally, this situation piqued our curiosity, prompting us to reach out directly. Typically, automakers refrain from commenting on spy shots, but we thought it worthwhile.

“Unfortunately, we can't comment on future product plans,” an Audi representative stated in an email. “However, we can assure you that we are developing performance models based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE).”

While this response doesn’t provide a definitive confirmation, it is the most substantial indication we’ve received in months that Audi is still focused on electric performance models. You can view the complete gallery of spy photos below.

Audi's fully electric wagon was seen undergoing tests at the Nürburgring. This is surprising, given that it was reportedly canceled.
