Mother and son apprehended on aircraft attempting to escape the country following fatal BMW street race | Carscoops
A mother and son who were apprehended after disembarking a flight in Miami were nearly able to escape.
According to prosecutors, Alvi Limani was racing a BMW M5 when his BMW X3 crashed, resulting in the death of a passenger.
Limani and his mother were reportedly attempting to leave the U.S. when they were arrested on a flight to Miami.
The case bears some resemblances to the “Squeeze Benz” incident, although no formal connection has been established.
An ordinary flight from Miami turned into a startling event on July 17 when police boarded the plane and took a Staten Island mother and her son into custody. Authorities allege that they were trying to escape the country due to the son's alleged involvement in a fatal street race on New Jersey’s Garden State Parkway. Both now face serious charges, along with two others linked to the incident.
Reports indicate that 20-year-old Alvi Limani was behind the wheel of a BMW X3 on June 29, racing a BMW M5 southbound near mile marker 130. According to investigators, Limani's driving abilities were lacking, as they claim he collided with two other vehicles before the X3 rolled over several times. During the crash, two passengers were ejected, including 20-year-old Albion Hysenaj, who was killed at the scene.
Subsequently, another passenger, Emily Harrington, reportedly fled the crash site on foot alongside Limani. NBC Miami states that Limani traveled to Miami, Florida, with his mother, Vilma Vneshta, to evade capture. Authorities caught up with them on a flight, and recent video footage shows police boarding the aircraft and leading Limani and Vneshta away in handcuffs.
Limani is now facing multiple charges, including first-degree aggravated manslaughter, second-degree vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death, driving with a suspended license, tampering with public records, assault by auto, and more. His mother faces a third-degree hindering charge.
Although police have not connected Limani to the controversial ‘Squeeze Benz’ social media group led by Antonio Ginestri, there are several parallels between them. They are of similar ages, frequent similar areas, and favor BMWs. Social media accounts related to Hysenaj indicate that some associates of Squeeze Benz follow each other.
All four defendants in the Limani case, including the driver of the BMW M5 and Harrington, are scheduled to appear in court on August 28. The investigation remains active, as authorities continue to seek additional witnesses or footage of the crash and the events that followed.
