Motorcyclist Escapes 130 MPH Collision While Fleeing from Police | Carscoops

      A motorcyclist narrowly escaped death after a crash during a police pursuit south of Los Angeles.

      The rider collided with a car while traveling at 130 mph and tumbled off, skidding along the 405 freeway.

      Despite the violent impact, he was later observed running down the road.

      Wearing protective motorcycle gear can be cumbersome, but it undoubtedly saved the life of one rider who was caught on camera crashing dramatically during a high-speed chase in Southern California.

      California Highway Patrol attempted to pull over the motorcyclist near Downey, about 13 miles (21 km) southeast of Los Angeles on the 605 Freeway on Sunday night, due to speeding. The rider accelerated to evade capture, as reported by ABC7’s Eyewitness News.

      With officers closely pursuing him, the rider switched to the 405 Freeway, reaching speeds exceeding 140 mph (225 km/h). At this point, ABC7’s news helicopter was documenting the chase from above. Footage shows the motorcycle zooming past other vehicles, moving at twice the speed on the poorly lit freeway.

      Unexpected Collision at High Speeds

      It remains uncertain whether low visibility, excessive speed, or a slower vehicle suddenly changing lanes was to blame, but the rider then clipped a car while traveling approximately 130 mph (210 km/h), causing sparks to fly and both him and his motorcycle to slide along the freeway.

      This type of crash typically suggests severe consequences for the rider, whether from the initial impact or further collisions with other cars or barriers. There was also the risk of being run over by following vehicles. Surprisingly, not only did he survive, but he was later seen sprinting along the multi-lane roadway illuminated by the ABC7 helicopter spotlight until ground officers apprehended him.

      Rider Avoids Major Injury, Faces Serious Legal Consequences

      The CHP has not disclosed the identity of the arrested rider, but he is expected to face more severe charges than the speeding violation he initially fled from. Although his protective gear likely saved his life, one can imagine he woke up feeling quite sore the next morning.
