A stolen G-Class met a tragic fate during a police pursuit involving a hybrid Toyota.
The incident began in Los Angeles and concluded with a collision in Pasadena.
Additionally, a Ford Explorer police cruiser crashed into a building during the chaotic chase.
Most would assume that in a collision between an older Toyota Prius and a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the latter would emerge unscathed. However, this was not the case during the recent incident in Los Angeles, where the G-Class ran a red light and was struck by a Prius. Apparently, the large size of the Mercedes did not overcome the laws of physics.
Los Angeles Police Department officers were alerted to a stolen Mercedes G-Class near Century Boulevard and Figueroa Streets on Wednesday evening. After locating the vehicle, they initiated a pursuit when the driver refused to stop.
The high-speed chase proceeded along the northbound lanes of the 110 Freeway before the G-Class navigated through suburban Pasadena streets. Footage from a local news helicopter captures the Mercedes speeding through the intersection at Foothill and Sierra Madre boulevards, running a red light in the process.
Just moments after entering the intersection, the G-Wagen was T-boned by a Toyota Prius. The impact caused the Prius to spin around 180 degrees, coming to a halt shortly after. While the front of the Toyota suffered significant damage, the Mercedes displayed even more extensive destruction.
The Prius propelled the G-Class into the air, flipping it over before it rolled multiple times. According to KTLA, the police apprehended the driver shortly after the collision. Despite its size and weight, the high center of gravity of the G-Class contributed to its poor performance in this accident.
A second vehicle was also affected, though that collision was not captured on video. It involved a Ford Explorer police cruiser that ended up crashing into the front of a building along Walnut Street. The LAPD has not released details regarding the circumstances of that crash.
