The major announcement is the Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo, but the 2026.5 ID.4 also grabs our attention.
Volkswagen has shared updates for its American vehicle lineup for the model year.
Several models are getting additional features, while the Tiguan introduces a new SEL R-Line Turbo.
The ID.4 will undergo a "mid-model-year change" that is expected to bring several enhancements.
Volkswagen has disclosed model year updates for nearly its entire U.S. range. However, there aren't significant changes as most vehicles were recently redesigned or refreshed.
Starting with the 2026 Atlas and Atlas Sport Coupe, the main update is a mirror with HomeLink added to the SE Technology trim and higher.
The 2026 Taos sees more significant upgrades, including standard rear-seat pretensioners and an enhanced 15w wireless smartphone charger. Additionally, the top-tier SEL trim now features an eight-speaker premium audio system.
The Tiguan was revamped for 2025, so modifications are limited. It does include a revised Travel Assist system with Assisted Lane Change functionality.
The range has expanded to include the new Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo, which made its debut at the New York Auto Show in April. Set for release this fall, the model boasts 20-inch wheels, a luxurious interior featuring Varenna leather seats, and American walnut wood trim.
Other features include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15-inch infotainment screen, and tri-zone climate control. Notable amenities are a 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats.
Under the hood, it’s powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
Regarding electric vehicles, the 2026 ID.4 will feature a HomeLink mirror on S Plus trims. While this may not be particularly exciting, Volkswagen has confirmed that a "mid-model-year change" is forthcoming, which will bring "additional features."
The ID.Buzz was introduced for 2025, so changes expected for 2026 are likely to be minimal. More details will be announced later.
On the automotive side, the Golf R is no longer available as a Black Edition, but buyers will find a new Graphite Gray Metallic color option.
The 2026 Jetta and Jetta GLI now come standard with rear-seat pretensioners. SE trims are now equipped with a sunroof, while the SEL and Autobahn add an eight-speaker premium audio system. Notably, the Autobahn features new push buttons on the steering wheel.
Volkswagen has not disclosed pricing yet, but noted that some 2026 models will start arriving at dealerships in August, while others will be available early next year.
