Approximately 500 jobs are being relocated to Georgia as Mercedes focuses its workforce in the Peach State.

The automaker is setting up a new Research & Development center near Atlanta and consolidating its U.S. operations, which will see 500 jobs transitioning to Georgia. These initiatives are designed to make the company more efficient and responsive.

Mercedes is solidifying its presence in Atlanta by relocating jobs to Georgia and establishing a cutting-edge Research & Development hub, marking a significant financial investment in the state that hosts its U.S. headquarters and the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Seven years ago, the company inaugurated its 1MB facility in Sandy Springs, where around 800 employees currently work. The arrival of up to 500 additional staff in Georgia is expected by August 2026.

The automaker has indicated that it is co-locating its R&D and customer services in the U.S. to improve both product quality and customer satisfaction. As part of this initiative, financial services teams and corporate functions currently situated in Farmington Hills, Michigan, will relocate to Sandy Springs.

Technical teams from various locations in the United States are also set to move to the new R&D center, which will be positioned near Sandy Springs. The company stated that this site will allow them to “tap into the rich engineering talent pool around institutions like Georgia Institute of Technology” as well as to “forge new collaborations with the region’s vibrant startup scene and established technology sectors.”

Jason Hoff, CEO of Mercedes-Benz North America, remarked that this decision “strengthens our position for continued growth and reinforces our established commitment to the U.S. market.” He noted, “Bringing our teams closer together will empower us to be more agile, accelerate our market response, and provide the best experience for our customers.”

Governor Brian Kemp welcomed the development, stating: “Georgia continues to lead in the future of mobility, attracting world-class companies like Mercedes-Benz that are advancing the automotive sector. We are thrilled that a job creator with strong ties to Georgia is reaffirming its commitment and expanding its operations here in the best state for business and opportunity.”

Georgia has witnessed significant automotive advancements recently, with the Hyundai Motor Group’s Metaplant America starting production near Savannah. Additionally, Rivian’s factory is back on track thanks to a loan of up to $6.57 billion from the Biden Administration.

As for Mercedes, the company has labeled the United States a “critical market,” having recorded over 374,000 sales last year. Given this significance, the automaker employs around 11,100 workers in the U.S., most of whom are involved in vehicle production in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The company recently announced plans to introduce the GLC model at this plant, which currently manufactures the GLE, GLE Coupe, GLS, EQE SUV, and EQS SUV.
