BMW M4 Nurburgring Edition: Too Exclusive for the Western Market | Carscoops
BMW made headlines in Shanghai by unveiling a new special edition and several announcements.
The M4 Nurburgring Edition has been introduced as a tribute to the famous racetrack, based on the M4 Competition, and boasts 523 hp along with a ‘Green Hell’ paint scheme. Additionally, the company showcased the Vision Driving Experience concept and upgraded software.
At the Shanghai Auto Show, BMW presented the M4 Nurburgring Edition, celebrating the iconic track and its connection to BMW M. Known as the “Green Hell,” the special edition is finished in BMW Individual Frozen Deep Green, complemented by a red accented grille and bronze wheels paired with red brake calipers.
The interior remains similar to the standard model but features special door sill plates and two-tone sport seats, which have an embroidered outline of the Nurburgring on the headrests. It also includes carbon fiber accents and an Alcantara-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel.
This special edition is based on the all-wheel-drive M4 Competition, powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine that produces 523 hp (390 kW / 530 PS), allowing it to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 3.2 seconds.
Production is limited to 53 units to honor BMW M’s 53rd anniversary, but unfortunately, this special edition will be exclusive to China.
At the Shanghai Auto Show, BMW also presented the Vision Driving Experience concept in a bright paint finish. This concept incorporates special light-sensitive pigments that charge during the day and illuminate at night, changing from “whitish yellow to vibrant neon yellow, depending on the charge level.”
Moreover, the concept includes a “magic film” that, when activated by UV light, produces a gradient effect transitioning from yellow to orange to pink.
BMW confirmed that the iX3 Neue Klasse will commence production later this year, though it will not be released in China. Instead, a unique version specific to the country is planned for 2026.
In terms of China-specific updates, the country will receive an enhanced version of the Panoramic iDrive and BMW Operating System X. While details were limited, it was noted that approximately 70% of the software in the Chinese variant consists of locally developed and modified code.
Particularly, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant will utilize Alibaba's technology. After the initial launch, this functionality will gradually integrate artificial intelligence advancements from Deepseek.
Finally, BMW highlighted the Chinese launch of the 3-Series 50 Years Edition, which is limited to 2,500 units. This edition features a distinctive paint job, unique 19-inch wheels, carbon fiber trim, and an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with a red 12 o'clock marker.
