The rear end of BMW’s Vision Driving Experience concept has faced considerable criticism online.
This EV concept is equipped with four electric motors, promising exceptional performance but featuring a controversial design.
In February, BMW unveiled its all-electric Vision Driving Experience concept, offering a glimpse of the upcoming first M-branded Neu Klasse EV. The German manufacturer’s design approach has encountered significant backlash in recent years as they attempt to adopt a new aesthetic, which hasn’t found universal approval.
Earlier this week, BMW shared images of the Vision Driving Experience on its Instagram account, and the feedback has been largely negative. A review of the comments reveals that many users are particularly critical of the rear-end design of the EV, and it’s hard to disagree with them.

We believe BMW has successfully revamped the front-end design of its Neue Klasse concepts, moving away from the unattractive kidney grilles found on several current models to a more streamlined grille that integrates smoothly with the sharp LED headlights. However, the rear presents a different challenge.
While the front of the concept is designed to sit low, befitting a sports sedan, the rear is quite upright and positioned higher than necessary. The taillights are also mounted at the very top of the tailgate, giving them an awkward appearance.
Opinions have been vocal and harsh. “What the heck is this rear view?” reads one comment with over 6,500 likes. “You need to fire your designer,” chimes another user, while a third comment that has garnered over 3,000 likes asks, "What are those rear lights?"
One comment features a meme of a large pile of feces, while another states, “I will pay you a billion pounds not to produce this.” A popular fitness influencer with 2.7 million followers also commented, “The front looks smooth, but what on earth is that rear?”
Since the article was posted, a few positive comments have emerged, but they are relatively rare and have received only a few likes. It’s safe to say that most people are not eager to praise this design.
So, what do you think—should BMW reconsider their design, or are we just being overly critical? Regardless, at this stage, the concept’s rear end might be the least of the brand’s concerns regarding public sentiment.
