The Audi TT seems ready for a comeback, potentially incorporating elements from Porsche.

On April 8, 2025, at 19:11, Michael Gauthier reported that Audi is likely using the Porsche 718 as the foundation for the upcoming TT.

This makes sense since both vehicles come in coupe and roadster variants.

If this is indeed a prototype for the TT, the new model might be sportier than its predecessors.

Spy photographers have captured the redesigned Porsche 718 Boxster multiple times, but this particular sighting is significant. Although it looks fairly ordinary, it might be an early indication of the next-generation Audi TT.

However, we still need confirmation, though there is considerable circumstantial evidence. Specifically, the two prototypes are registered under Audi, indicated by their “IN” license plates, which reference Ingolstadt. Photographers also noted that these vehicles are “brand new and freshly registered,” as they feature an S on the plates.

This raises the question of why Audi would have prototypes of the Porsche 718 Boxster. The most logical explanation is the development of a new TT, and basing it on the 718 would be a sensible choice.

Beyond financial factors, utilizing Porsche’s platform could create a superior driving experience. This would mark a significant shift, as previous models were closely related to the Volkswagen Golf, with the third generation being built on the MQB platform.

If this is an Audi TT prototype, we can anticipate the production model featuring distinct styling that echoes its predecessors. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if the vehicle receives a contemporary update, especially with an electric version seemingly in the pipeline.

Audi has kept details under wraps, but CEO Gernot Döllner recently stated that “I believe Audi should have a sports car” because “that’s part of the brand DNA.” He also indicated that it might take some time as the company needs to “find the right way, timing-wise, to integrate it into our portfolio.”

That moment seems to be approaching sooner rather than later, although the production model might still be about two years away since development seems to be in its early stages.
