VW and KONG have collaborated to introduce a limited edition dog toy influenced by the ID. Buzz model.
Each toy costs $13.99, and with every purchase, an additional toy will be donated to an animal shelter.
KONG dog toys were inspired by the rubber axle stops from the 1960s Volkswagen Type 2 Bus.
A few years ago, we shared a story about Joe Markham and his German Shepherd, Fritz. Markham owned an automotive repair shop in downtown Denver and was working on a late 1960s Volkswagen Type 2 Bus when he suddenly heard Fritz barking excitedly.
Upon investigating, he found Fritz joyfully chewing on a bulbous axle stop. This turned out to be an excellent toy since the rubber was durable enough to withstand constant chewing while being soft enough to protect Fritz’s teeth.

This incident initiated a six-year journey where Markham refined the “rubber composition, size, and shape” that eventually led to the creation of the KONG Classic Dog Toy, launched in 1976, and which has since sold millions.
Volkswagen and KONG are now collaborating on a special edition dog toy inspired by the ID. Buzz. The toy, which aims to celebrate National Puppy Day and the shared heritage of the two companies, boasts a striking cabana blue design and distinctive packaging. A limited quantity is available, with pricing starting at $13.99, excluding taxes and an $8.95 shipping fee.
For every toy sold, Volkswagen, KONG, and VCA Charities will contribute another to a local shelter. Additionally, 100% of the net proceeds will benefit VCA Charities and its extensive network of animal shelters across the nation.
This initiative brings positive news all around, with Volkswagen's Rachael Zaluzec stating, “This collaboration continues KONG’s wonderful origin story, which began with a man, his best friend, and a VW bus.” She added, “We’re thrilled to partner with KONG and VCA Charities to extend this connection to those in need, ensuring that more dogs receive the love and joy they truly deserve.”
