Chevy to Temporarily Halt Corvette Production for Four Weeks | Carscoops
The primary reason for the halt in production is to assist Chevy in managing the inventory of the C8.
There are speculations that Chevy may be gearing up to introduce a new Corvette Grand Sport.
Many workers at the Bowling Green facility are retiring.
Production will be paused for one week in February, two weeks in March, and one week in May.
General Motors is temporarily halting production of the Chevrolet Corvette at its Bowling Green assembly plant for a total of four weeks until the end of May. The production stops are due to various factors, including preparing the production line for anticipated updates for the 2026 model year.
The first week-long pause at Bowling Green will begin on February 24. Production will also be suspended during the weeks starting March 17 and March 24, as well as the week of May 19. One of the key reasons for this production pause is to manage Corvette inventory effectively.
Additionally, a member of the Mid Engine Corvette Forum has noted that numerous employees at the Bowling Green assembly plant are retiring, and GM does not plan to replace them. As a result, remaining employees will need to take on additional responsibilities, which will require “extensive re-training.” Changes for the 2026 model year Corvette are also on the horizon.
Details regarding the updates for the 2026 Corvette remain limited. There has been ongoing speculation about a significant interior redesign for the C8, but Chevy has not confirmed this. One forum member suggests it may introduce a new Grand Sport model, positioned between the Stingray and the E-Ray, likely utilizing an enhanced version of the standard 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8, possibly without hybrid support.
Carscoops has contacted Chevrolet for further details and will provide updates once a response is received.
Aside from any new models that may debut, smaller changes might be made across the 2026 model year lineup, which could include new color choices and refreshed interior finishes.
The most exciting new Corvette model set to hit the production line is the ZR1. It features a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine producing 1,064 hp and 828 lb-ft (1,121 Nm) of torque delivered to the rear wheels. This powerful Corvette can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 233 mph.
