Jason Fenske's critique of the Lucid Air initiated direct conversations with engineers.

Lucid has detailed software improvements and laid out plans for an upcoming UX 3.0 overhaul.

This type of service is uncommon, but Lucid's reaction is noteworthy.

Over the years, negative YouTube car reviews have developed a certain reputation. Some have been so harsh that they’ve been held responsible—rightly or wrongly—for contributing to the downfall of entire automakers, as seen in the well-publicized case of Fisker about a year ago. However, this time, a critical video led to a different outcome. Instead of creating a backlash, it opened the door for feasible solutions that could benefit more than just one dissatisfied customer.

Jason Fenske of Engineering Explained leased a Lucid Air, encountered difficulties, and subsequently engaged directly with the brand. The repercussions of this dialogue will ultimately help many Lucid owners moving forward.

A Critical Eye Meets a Willing Ear

When Jason Fenske released a straightforward video expressing his dissatisfaction with his newly-leased Lucid Air Touring, it wasn't just a sensational critique or a viral gimmick. It was a thorough, technical examination of how an exceptionally engineered electric vehicle was hindered by frustrating software issues, awkward UX choices, and some perplexing hardware anomalies.

Rather than dismissing his feedback and proceeding with their agenda, the electric vehicle manufacturer reached out. According to Fenske, this led to productive discussions with engineers and even the SVP of engineering, Imad Dlala.

Clearly, Lucid's team shared insider insights and previews of forthcoming changes. This is where the narrative takes a significant turn. If Fenske's information is accurate, Lucid owners have much to anticipate.

      Lucid Plans a UX Overhaul

The most significant update concerns software. Lucid has confirmed that it is actively working on enhancing the reliability of the phone-as-key feature, the behavior of door handles, the positioning of mirrors in reverse, inconsistencies between percentage and miles range, and support for Tesla Supercharger Plug & Charge.

More importantly, a comprehensive UX 3.0 overhaul is anticipated for early fall 2026, which will introduce multitasking, faster profile switching, improved CarPlay stability, enhanced voice commands, and a more user-friendly interface. Owners with newer hardware or those who are willing to pay for an upgrade will have access to these improvements.

Additionally, Lucid has announced that vehicle-to-home power capability will be available in the first half of 2026, promising up to 17 kW peak output without the need for a separate home inverter—a domain where Lucid's hardware strengths could truly stand out.

Fenske estimates that his Lucid could keep his home powered for four days in the event of a power outage, without altering the usual habits of his family.

Not All Feedback Gets a Response

At the same time, he remains cautious, and justifiably so. Promises do not equate to solutions, and the Lucid Air still faces challenges concerning daily usability. However, acknowledging problems, engaging with constructive criticism, and proposing specific changes is something many automakers fail to accomplish.

Moreover, this isn’t the typical treatment most customers receive. Fenske operates Engineering Explained, possesses a substantial following, and communicates in the same technical language as Lucid’s engineering team. That context is significant. Nonetheless, what Lucid has outlined is meaningful, especially for current and prospective owners.
