The revived 2027 Ram TRX marks the first SRT pickup in two decades, which seems quite appropriate. While it may lack the Viper engine found in the previous Ram SRT-10, it boasts a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 generating 777 horsepower—75 horsepower more than the last TRX in production and 57 horsepower above the Ford F-150 Raptor R. This comeback can be described in many ways, but “half-baked” doesn’t fit.
In reality, I believe most people would have been satisfied with a TRX that offered the same power as its predecessor. What they truly desire is a Hellcat pickup positioned above the turbocharged six-cylinder RHO—a formidable performer, but not a V8. Ram went beyond expectations, delivering a Baja-ready vehicle that can accelerate to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 118 mph.
We generally don’t include quotes from executives in our press releases about new cars, but Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis’ remarks succinctly explain the brand’s motivation for the new TRX:
“We kicked off 2025 with a clear mantra—three words and three letters: The Last Tenth and LFG. Our initial steps were straightforward: revive the iconic Hemi V8 and reignite the SRT Performance Division. So, who would really wager against the TRX’s return? However, resurrecting the name alone isn’t sufficient. Five years ago, Ram set a benchmark with 702 horsepower, which has since been surpassed. SRT doesn’t look to simply meet expectations; we aim higher—721 wasn’t going to suffice. 777 horsepower? That’s the standard. It signifies not just power, but a rebirth and a new direction ahead.”
That green hue is quite striking. Ram
Ram proclaims it the most powerful street-legal, gas-powered half-ton ever produced by the factory. It also leads in torque, producing 680 lb-ft, which is 40 more than the competition from Ford. The TRX transmits this immense power via an eight-speed automatic TorqueFlite 8HP95 gearbox and a BorgWarner 48-13 transfer case that ensures full-time four-wheel drive. Its rear axle is a Dana 60 complete with full-float shafts and an electronic locking differential.
As expected, the TRX features 35-inch BFGoodrich tires and adaptive Bilstein shocks, now upgraded to Black Hawk e2 units shared with the RHO. Ram claims these can make adjustments mid-air for smoother landings, collaborating with the Ram Active Terrain Dynamics suspension management system. In my opinion, this enhancement makes the RHO seem like an even better deal, as it shares much with the TRX while costing $75,640 after destination fees—significantly less than its V8-powered counterpart, priced at $102,590.
In that price, you get a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with built-in hands-free active drive assist. This is a first for the TRX and indeed a novel feature in the high-performance truck segment, as Ford does not offer its F-150 Raptor models with BlueCruise hands-free driving technology. While enthusiasts typically prefer driving themselves, such a feature could be beneficial for long road trips in your TRX out West.
*Takes a deep breath* Presenting the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX Bloodshot Night Edition. Ram
Ram is introducing the TRX with a unique variant called the Bloodshot Night Edition. It retains all the performance parts but showcases a distinctive paint scheme featuring Blacktop upper paint, a Flame Red hood stripe, splash graphics, a glass-enclosed center-console badge, and—get this—a TRX logo outlined in red. The beadlock-capable wheels are also a great addition to the upgrade package.
Deliveries of the new Ram 1500 SRT TRX are scheduled to commence in the latter half of 2026. This nicely wraps up the Hemi V8’s revival, but at this point, I’m hesitant to assert that Ram is finished. Perhaps keep a space free for “800-hp super truck” on your bingo card.
