Developer Straight4 Studios, known for Project Motor Racing, announced on Monday that it is letting go of an undisclosed number of developers following the game's official, and somewhat disastrous, launch. They assured the community that they plan to address the game's numerous issues in future updates.

"Today, Straight4 is sharing news we had hoped to avoid," the studio remarked on social media Monday morning. "After considering all possible alternatives, we reached the difficult decision late last week that we must reduce our team size."

"This choice does not reflect the talent or dedication of those impacted," Straight4 added. "Every individual involved with Project Motor Racing devoted their passion to it, and we are deeply thankful for their contributions. We understand the personal impact of this decision, and we are dedicated to supporting each departing team member with care and respect."

The message also outlined "the road ahead," pledging that the team is focused on "rebuilding trust by enhancing the game" through a series of updates to rectify its many launch issues. Our own Adam Ismail encountered numerous game-breaking bugs on both PC and PS5. The PC version was fraught with glitches, rendering it nearly unplayable until a subsequent patch and some adjustments to the display settings. Despite these significant barriers, he found the core racing experience itself to be lacking, with off-grid elements nearly absent.

It’s not uncommon for studios to lay off or reassign staff after a game release, especially before starting a new project. However, given the game's unfinished condition, these layoffs seem hasty and may suggest the studio is attempting to cut losses following a disappointing launch. For now, we'll have to wait and see what happens next.
